Our Projects
When Smart About Carbon Members contribute funds to offset greenhouse gas emissions from their daily activities, these funds enable Smart About Carbon to direct funding toward green energy projects that clean and improve our environment.
Our projects are fully verified by Green-e, the national organization which certifies sustainable energy initiatives.
We encourage YOU, our Members to become Smart About Carbon by becoming familiar with the types of sustainable energy projects we are supporting, together. If you have questions about these projects, or suggestions for new projects to consider, please

We're always happy to hear from you.
Elk River Wind Power Project
The Elk River Wind Power Project is a large scale wind power development, which covers 8,000 acres of agricultural land in Beaumont, Kansas. The project produces 150 megawatts via wind power, enough to power 42,000 Kansas homes!! The rows of gleaming white wind turbines take up only two percent of the leased land, allowing cows to continue roaming their pastures while enabling cleaner power generation.
Twin Bridges Land Fill Project
As landfills decompose, large amounts of methane gas are produced which make their way into the atmosphere. Methane gas is a very potent greenhouse gas. One kilogram of methane has 23 times the warming effect of one kilogram of carbon dioxide! Located in Danville, Indiana, Twin Bridges sequesters methane gas from the landfill and burns it to produce electricity. This offsets 23,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year, and creates 26,000 MWhs of electricity as well!!
